New Shoaler Information

Current as of: January 12, 2020

Money

  • Visa and MasterCard are now accepted for the hotel bill, as well as the gift shop and book store/lobby store, although checks are preferred due to the fees associated with processing credit/debit cards. Credit cards are also accepted for donations to the Star Island Annual fund and Endowment fund.
  • You can charge incidental fees -- lobster dinner orders (apx. $20), conference photos ($10 for one color photo), etc. -- to your hotel bill. You may also run a tab at the snack bar, which will be added to your bill at the end of the week.
  • You will need cash for the snack bar (tabs are closed before the last day), donations at social hour, and personal debts.
  • The boat fare and the parking fee of $15 per night/per car ($105 for the week), will be added to your hotel bill.

LOAS has a silent auction each week, the proceeds of which benefit the Lee Reid Scholarship Fund. Conferees bring items with them to donate to the silent auction, which is usually set-up during the week in Newton. You can bid on items until social hour on the last evening. You may pay for any items that you win with cash, or by check or credit/debit card.

There may also be a "Pel Auction", where the working community of the island (the Pelicans) will auction off various and unusual service items, such as a morning tea service, laundry services, guided tours of off limit places, a dinner on the front porch and many more.
