On Sunday, January 13th we lost a beloved, longtime member of our Fellowship Family, Wendy Landau. Our hearts go out to her husband, David, and daughters, Tracey and Alex. Wendy's compassionate, graceful presence, and friendship will be missed by many in our community. 

We will celebrate her life together on Saturday, February 2^nd at 2:00pm. The service will be led by Rev. Alison Miller in our sanctuary. All members and friends are invited to come. The service will be followed by a reception hosted by the Landau family.

There will be a time for people to share stories or thoughts about Wendy during the service. If you cannot make the service, you can email amiller@muuf.org with a message to be shared aloud. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance in Wendy's honor:  www.ocrahope.org

If you've been to LOAS 2 in the last 2 years, you most likely remember Pat Gorman and Tuna (Steve) Flores. They wore fun colorful clothing. They also led the Qigong workshop. Pat also had mobility issues and used the Vic mobile. It is with great sadness I inform you all of Pat's passing a few days ago. Pat was amazing in her ability to smile and fully engage in life despite the physical pain she endured for many years. Her health declined quickly after Star. Tuna and Pat's many friends stood by her side to the end. Please hold both Pat and Tuna in your thoughts at this difficult time. If so moved, Tuna may be reached at PO Box 646 Sag Harbor, NY 11963.

Pat Gorman, co-designer of the iconic MTV logo and leader in the graphic design world since the 1980s, has died.

Ms. Gorman was born in New York City in 1947 and raised in Whitestone, New York. She is the second child of actor Tom Gorman and Madeleine Hooley Gorman, an actress and teacher.

Ms. Gorman was a co-founder of Manhattan Design and best known for the iconic MTV logo they designed, pioneering the innovative concept that “Logos Could Change” and for which she received many awards, including a Clio, an MTV award as well as being named one of the top 100 graphic designs of the 20th century award. Ms. Gorman is responsible for many of the early MTV animations and was sculptor of the moon man MTV award statue. She conceived of and designed sets for several of their awards shows as well as many of the popular souvenir items like shirts, caps, towels and more.

Ms. Gorman also co-designed many album covers and souvenir items for groups like Talking Heads, REM, Billy Idol, Duran Duran, 10,000 Maniacs, The Cars, Katrina and the Waves, the B-52s, The Scorpions, Natalie Merchant, and more. Additional graphic design accomplishments include winning UN Population Day poster contests and the design of a number of early popular Swatch watches, clothing and accessories.

A Pratt Institute trained fine artist, Ms. Gorman’s work and designs have been exhibited in various galleries in New York and elsewhere.

In addition to her accomplishments in the world of visual art, Ms. Gorman was a Master of T’ai Chi Chuan, and co- founded the School of T’ai Chi Chuan in New York City, and also co-created the T’ai Chi Foundation to promote these healthy exercises in the western world. She is the author and creator of “Roots and Branches 5 Element Qi Gong,” a DVD and online exercise regimen.

Ms. Gorman became one of the first licensed acupuncturists in New York holding license #279. She has a Master’s Degree and Advanced Teacher’s Certification in Acupuncture, and found time to treat patients and Teach 5 Element Acupuncture in the United States and abroad with her acupuncturist and teacher husband, Stephen Flores for over 25 years.

Ms. Gorman and her husband have acupuncture practices in New York City and Bridgehampton where she was active in the local Unitarian Universalist Congregation and a writer in the Herstory Writer’s Workshop.

Ms. Gorman is survived by her husband of 29 years, Stephen Flores, her brothers, Michael Gorman and Peter Gorman, and sisters Peggy Lehman, Barbara Errico, and Regina Leonard; and 24 nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronald (Ron) Lee Cox, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away October 7, 2018 in Winchester, VA. He was 78.  He started his professional career at Exxon in Economics and Planning, and then moved to Mobil Oil to Management Training and Development before starting his own company, Management Worlds Inc. in Summit, NJ. Ron consulted and trained employees at many leading corporate, non-profit and government organizations in the world - including NASA, US Steel and GE. He especially enjoyed teaching strategic planning and loved helping employees learn to work collaboratively.

He lived in Summit for 35 years as well as London, England and Houston, Texas.  Ron was born July 5, 1940 in Wichita, KS, the son of Glenn B. and Lennie Hartman Cox.

He earned a PhD from the University of Kansas. A loyal Jayhawk, he maintained a great affinity for the university and was a committed friend, supporter, and fan of the men's basketball team. He loved the great traditions and rich history of Kansas athletics and visited Lawrence whenever he could to see friends and family.

On August 10, 1968 Ron married Dorothy (Dottie) Vann in Elsberry, MO. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Ron retired in 2004 and moved with Dottie to Winchester, VA, a short drive to see their grandkids.

Ron had numerous hobbies including scuba diving, traveling, and going on long walks. An expert photographer, he leaves behind a treasure trove of amazing photos that captured extraordinary family memories. He loved computers and technology and was always available to share tips and tricks with family and friends.

Ron has been an active member of Unitarian Universalist Church for 45 years in Morristown, NJ and in Winchester, VA. He sang in the choir, planned services, served on many committees, and of course helped with any technology needs.

Ron is survived by his wife, Dottie; their daughter, Heather Cox Gaskins and son-in-law Elliott Gaskins and three grandchildren, Bryce, Carter, and Emma Belle of Springfield, VA; sister, Linda Cox Hottman (Bill) of Salina, KS; and five nieces and two nephews, including Janelle and Troy Schremmer who visited Uncle Ron and Aunt Dottie often. He will be remembered lovingly by his family, including many close cousins, and his cherished friends.

Services for the Celebration of Life will be held November 11, 2018 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley, 6380 Valley Pike, Stephens City, VA 22655. Service will begin at 2 p.m. with a reception immediately following.

Ron's ashes will be scattered at Star Island in the spring.
